I have recently stumbled upon an interesting piece of software called Connectify. This free software can turn a Windows 7 computer into a wifi hotspot, to allow nearby devices to share its Internet connection. It's a very small and simple to use piece of Software, and the latest beta version even has a quick start wizard to guide you through all the setup procedures. The main features of this software include:

• Create a secure (WPA2 encrypted) wifi hotspot using your Windows 7 PC or Laptop.
• Easy to setup, with very few options and a simple user interface.
• Ability to monitor the number of connected clients.

Unfortunately Connectify only support Windows 7 because it utilises a number of improvements that it includes. However this is a small price to pay for the ability to create you very own Wifi network wherever you go.

I can think of a number of scenarios where this software could be useful. For example if you are staying at a hotel and wish to connect both your laptop and smartphone to the Internet, but the Hotel charges per device. Connectify allows you to save money by only paying to connect your Laptop to the Internet, then you connect your Phone to the Internet using your personal Wifi network.
Similarly if you have a 3G USB dongle, but wish to connect multiple devices to the Internet through it.

It's no wonder that Connectify has been listed as one of the top ten pieces of software for the frequent traveller. I think it's a very cool and useful bit of software.
