About a month ago I wrote about www.co.cc a websites that provided free domain names. Today I'm going to follow up by writing about another service called Dot.tk. Dot.tk is very similar to co.cc except that the domains it gives away are proper domains whereas co.cc gives away sub-domains. Dot.tk have all the normal methods for setting up your domain and a number of nice features including a mail service, a URL shorterner and a free advertising network.

From the Dot.tk website:

"Dot TK is a joint venture of the Government of Tokelau, a country in the South Pacific, the countries communication company Teletok and BV Dot TK, a privately held company. The Government of Tokelau has appointed BV Dot TK as the exclusive registration entity. BV Dot TK is doing business as the Dot TK Registry."

So the country of Tokelau is allowing anyone to use their domains for free, which I think I very nice of them.

There are a couple of limitations on the free domains, however these are not major restrictions and are unlikely to bother anyone. Firstly there is a minimum traffic requirement of 25 unique hits per 90 days. Also you do not actually own the domain, and therefore have no real rights when it comes to using it.
For a small fee you can purchase the domain. Upon purchasing the domain it's ownership is transferred to you and minimum traffic requirements are removed.

Overall I find the Dot.tk provide an extremely good service, I've been using their domains for a little while now and have had absolutely no problems, and I prefer Dot.tk to co.cc. I would strongly recommend Dot.tk to anyone.
